The Toronto Blue Jays completed their three game series in Arizona against the Diamondbacks with a 12-4 victory after having lost the first two games.

The Jays relied on starter Shaun Marcum to be their stopper yet again and he came through in a big way.

Marcum pitched five innings, allowing three earned runs on six hits, walking one and striking out eight, also contributing a double with the bat.

The Jays went full force on offensive against D-Backs starter Billy Buckner scorching him for seven earned runs on eleven hits over four innings.

The Jays received two run home runs from both Edwin Encarnacion & Jose Bautista, two of the team’s hottest hitters entering the game, while backup players Jose Molina (3-5, 1RBI, 1 run scored) & John McDonald (2-4, 2RBI, 2 runs scored, one double) had excellent days.

Every player in the Jays starting line-up recorded a hit except for Aaron Hill, although Hill did score two runs in the contest.

Also, every Jays player in the starting line-up aside from Hill and Marcum recorded more than one hit in the game as the powerhouse offense of the Jays recorded seventeen hits in total.

With the game virtually a blow-out Marcum was given a short outing as Toronto gave their bullpen some work.

Shawn Camp, Scott Downs & Kevin Gregg all made appearances in the game with Camp pitching two solid innings, allowing no runs on two hits while striking out one. Downs pitched a spotless inning of work allowing one hit while striking out one and Gregg worked through some control problems (two walks) and a first pitch home run to Chris Young to finish out the game for Toronto.

Hopefully Gregg can find his control in the coming days as Toronto will need better appearances out of their closer, who has been impressive throughout the season up until his loss to the Seattle Mariners last Thursday.

The Jays move onto Anaheim to challenge the underachieving Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim, who the Jays hope to pay back after being swept by the Angels earlier in the year at the Rogers Centre.

Left hander Brett Cecil (3-2, 4.98ERA) will get the nod in tonight’s game against the Angels Joe Saunders (3-5, 4.42ERA).

The game is scheduled to begin at 10:05pm EST.

In other Jays news, starting pitcher Dana Eveland, who has struggled mightily over a number of his last starts was designated for assignment by the team on Sunday. Eveland, acquired from the Oakland Athletics prior to Spring Training for cash considerations impressed during spring and earned a spot in the rotation.

The left hander also impressed through the beginning of the 2010 season, going 3-1 with an earned run average of 3.82 over his first six starts for Toronto, but things fell apart for him as the season inched on. Eveland has allowed 34 total base runners over his last nine and a third innings, giving up nineteen runs, seventeen earned on twenty three hits and ten walks in his last three starts.

Eveland knew he was fighting for his job as Brian Tallet, Jesse Litsch & Marc Rzepczynski are all making progress on their way back from injuries.

After Eveland pitched the worst game of his season on Saturday against the D-Backs, allowing eight earned runs on eight hits over an inning and a third the Jays had to make the decision.

With the designation Eveland will be exposed to waivers, as he lacks any kind of options with the club. This means that any team can claim the lefty within the next ten days. If no one claims him he will be out righted to Triple A Las Vegas where he will try and work out his problems, with a possible return to the Jays rotation coming in the future.

The Jays have called up starter turned reliever David Purcey to fill the roster spot, it is assumed Purcey will join Toronto’s bullpen as another left handed option.
