The Toronto Blue Jays made another waiver claim on Tuesday, claiming infielder Jarrett Hoffpauir off waivers from the St.Louis Cardinals.

The Jays designated left handed relief pitcher Bill Murphy for assignment to make room on the 40 man roster for Hoffpauir.

The 26 year old Hoffpauir was a sixth round pick by the Cardinals in the 2004 First Year Player Draft.

The second baseman split last season between the St. Louis Cardinals and Triple A Memphis Redbirds.

In eight games with the Cardinals, Hoffpauir hit .250 with two doubles and two RBIs.

With Memphis, he hit .291 with 14 homers, 22 doubles and 53 RBIs in 108 games.

Hoffpauir could backup All-Star second baseman Aaron Hill this season if the Jays decide to let both Marco Scutaro & John McDonald leave the club via free agency.

The Jays internal options at second base are slim hence the waiver claim of Hoffpauir.

The Jays also claimed 28 year old relief pitcher Sean Henn off waivers from the Baltimore Orioles earlier this week as new Toronto general manager Alex Anthopoulos is making minor moves, claiming younger upbeats players who could flourish if given the opportunity.
