Gear Up For Blue Jays Baseball

Anthopoulos Makes More Front Office Moves

Two weeks after Toronto Blue Jays general manager Alex Anthopoulos announced the hiring of former Washington Nationals director of amateur scouting Dana Brown as his special assistant, as well as made several other moves involving scouting and player development, the new general manager of the Blue Jays continued his revamping of the front office personnel.

Yesterday, Anthopoulos added a pair of senior advisors to the Blue Jays staff in the form of Mel Didier and Mel Queen.

Both gentlemen will carry the title of senior advisor to the general manager.

The move is yet another made to help Toronto focus on the scouting and player development departments in a more focused manner.

Didier brings 56 years of scouting experience to the Jays, while Queen has spent 31 years in baseball as a coach and manager primarily with Toronto.

Didier has spent the last seven seasons as a senior advisor to the general manager for the Texas Rangers and has also worked for the Detroit Tigers, Milwaukee Brewers, Montreal Expos, Los Angeles Dodgers, Seattle Mariners, Cleveland Indians, Arizona Diamondbacks & Baltimore Orioles.

Toronto baseball fans are familiar with Queen as he is most noted for his incredible work with Roy Halladay in the younger part of his playing career, helping aid Halladay into the top tier starter he currently has become.

Queen, who was Toronto’s pitching coach from 1996-99, returned to the Blue Jays in 2008 as a minor league coach.

Once again the moves by Anthopoulous are obviously being made to move the club in a more direct approach to the future of the club.

Where does that leave the 2010 season?

That question has not yet been answered, but I’m sure it will come at the end of the 2009 postseason and also during the offseason, which is slowly approaching.
