Gear Up For Blue Jays Baseball

Long ball and Pavano Spoil Halladay Complete Game

Roy Halladay pitched his seventh complete game of the season against the Minnesota Twins Wednesday night, but was on the losing side of things, as solo home runs from Orlando Cabrera and Justin Morneau, combined with a two run double from Michael Cuddyer and outstanding Twins pitching earned them the victory in a 4-1 win.

Halladay went the distance while allowing nine hits, four earned runs; walking one and striking out nine for his ninth lose of the season.

Roy Halladay went the distance yet again, but came out with a loss.

Carl Pavano pitched 7.1 innings of six hit ball shutting down the Blue Jays offense before passing the ball onto relievers Jose Mijeres and Joe Nathan. Nathan recorded his 38th save of the season.

Third baseman Brian Buscher also had a big game for the Twins going 3-4 with a double and a run scored on the night.

The only production from the flat Blue Jays offense came in the fifth inning when Toronto third baseman Edwin Encarnacion led off the inning with a triple, which was followed by a run producing double off the bat of Travis Snider.

There were a lot of zeroes in the Jays hits column as Jose Bautista, Adam Lind, Lyle Overbay, Rod Barajas and John McDonald were all held hitless by the Twins.

The crowd of 11,159 was the smallest crowd in attendance in the history of the Rogers Centre beating out the previous record of 12,571 against Texas on April 30th 2002.

The Jays complete their four game series with the Twins today at 12:37pm EST before moving onto the Motor City to battle the American League Central leading Detroit Tigers.

Scott Baker takes the mound for Minnesota and will take on Toronto rookie left hander Brett Cecil. Cecil will make his last start of the season as his innings pitched have already surpassed an innings limit Toronto put into effect for the youngster.

Speaking of Detroit, I will personally be in attendance at the Toronto-Detroit game on Friday night as Brian Tallet will square off against Detroit starter Nate Robertson.

In other Blue Jays news, Aaron Hill will return to the Blue Jays lineup sometime during the weekend series in Detroit. If you had not heard, Hill left Toronto’s lineup to travel to Florida to be with his wife Elizabeth, who gave birth to the couple’s first child Paige Victoria on Monday night.

I’d also like to congratulate New York Yankees shortstop Derek Jeter for tying the all time Yankees hit mark set by Lou Gehrig on Wednesday night. Jeter and the Yankees have an off day tonight, but will play the Baltimore Orioles at home on Friday. Expect a historic moment in that game from Jeter as he prepares to become the all time Yankees hit leader.

Like I said earlier I’ll be out of town from tomorrow until Monday so I’ll post articles upon my return.
