Gear Up For Blue Jays Baseball

Jays Take Series from Cincy

During a sad day for everyone, upon learning the deaths of former Charlie’s Angels actress Farrah Fawcett and the “King of Pop” himself Michael Jackson, the Jays lost the final game of a three game series at home (7-5) to Cincinnati after taking games one (7-5) and two (8-2).

Brian Tallet was impressive for the Jays Tuesday night.

Brian Tallet was impressive for the Jays Tuesday night.

Game one of the series featured an amazing six innings of work by Jays starter Brian Tallet.

Tallet, pitching on three days rest, worked six shutout innings, giving up three hits, walking one and striking out seven.

Too bad local Toronto television viewers did not get to see this amazing performance, as the monopoly known as Rogers Television had a major network shutdown causing certain channels to shutdown for an extended period of time.

Of course, one of those channels was Rogers Sportsnet, the main broadcaster of all things Blue Jays including Toronto Blue Jays games.

The channel became active in the top of the seventh inning just in time for relievers Shawn Camp and Jesse Carlson to combine to give up four runs, and let Cincinnati back into the game.

Brandon League also had a rough eighth inning, but managed to only let in one run.

Jason “The Doveman” Frasor finally closed the door in a nervous ninth inning, for his second save of the season.

Scott Richmond started game two for the Jays. Richmond would square off against Cincinnati starter Bronson Arroyo.

Bronson Arroyo, his high leg kick, and his hairdo are not fans of the Rogers Centre.

Bronson Arroyo, his high leg kick, and his hairdo are not fans of the Rogers Centre.

Arroyo was lit up last season by the Jays for ten runs at the Rogers Centre, and this year’s trip to Toronto was not much better for Arroyo.

Arroyo gave up three home runs and five earned runs in the first inning alone.

Aaron Hill, Vernon Wells and Adam Lind would all hit homers in the first inning for the Jays.

Scott Richmond used that lead to his advantage, and pitched seven innings, giving up two hits, two earned runs, walking two and striking out three for a dominating Blue Jays win.

Right handed rookie Dirk Hayhurst showed some poise out of the bullpen.

Hayhurst went two strong innings to finish up the game, to show Toronto fans that someone not named Jason Frasor could come out of the bullpen and pitch well.

Brett Cecil had a terrible night on the mound starting for Toronto Thursday night in game three of the series, lasting only three innings, giving up nine hits, five earned runs, walking three and striking out two.

The Jays came back and tied the game with a four run fifth inning off Reds starter Johnny Cueto.

But in the end it was the Blue Jays bullpen that cost us yet another game.

Shawn Camp was pitching well, lasting four innings, giving up three hits and one earned run but gave up the eventual game winning home run to Joey Votto.

Etobicoke, Ontario born Cincinnati Reds first baseman, Joey Votto, was a hitting machine in game three last night, going 4-5, with 3RBI, and the game winning home run.

Brandon League gave up yet another run in the eighth, pushing his ERA to an abysmal 5.94 and it was all over for the Jays. Reds closer Francisco Cordero shut us down in the ninth for this 18th save.

J.P Ricciardi will need to address this bullpen issue sooner or later, because it’s apparent to Toronto Blue Jays fan everywhere that our bullpen is a mess right now.

The Jays open up a three game interleague series at home tonight with the World Series champion Philadelphia Phillies.

The Phillies are looking for redemption, as the Jays swept the Phillies in a three game series June 16th – 18th in Philadelphia at Citizens Bank Park.

I will personally be at the game tonight heckling former Blue Jays and present Phillies right fielder Jayson Werth from the right field bleachers.

I would like to close out this column with a song lyric in memory of one of my all time favorite performers and the “King of Pop” himself Michael Jackson.

Thriller – Michael Jackson

It’s close to midnight and something evil’s lurking in the dark
Under the moonlight, you see a sight that almost stops your heart
You try to scream but terror takes the sound before you make it
You start to freeze as horror looks you right between the eyes
You’re paralyzed

‘Cause this is thriller, thriller night
And no one’s gonna save you from the beast about strike
You know it’s thriller, thriller night
You’re fighting for your life inside a killer, thriller tonight

You hear the door slam and realize there’s nowhere left to run
You feel the cold hand and wonder if you’ll ever see the sun
You close your eyes and hope that this is just imagination, girl!
But all the while you hear the creature creeping up behind
You’re out of time

‘Cause this is thriller, thriller night
There ain’t no second chance against the thing with forty eyes, girl
Thriller, thriller night
You’re fighting for your life inside a killer, thriller tonight

Night creatures calling, the dead start to walk in their masquerade
There’s no escaping the jaws of the alien this time
(They’re open wide)
This is the end of your life

They’re out to get you, there’s demons closing in on every side
They will possess you unless you change that number on your dial
Now is the time for you and I to cuddle close together, yeah
All through the night I’ll save you from the terror on the screen
I’ll make you see

That this is thriller, thriller night
‘Cause I can thrill you more than any ghost would ever dare try
Thriller, thriller night
So let me hold you tight and share a
Killer, diller, chiller, thriller here tonight

‘Cause this is thriller, thriller night
Girl, I can thrill you more than any ghost would ever dare try
Thriller, thriller night
So let me hold you tight and share a killer, thriller, ow!

(I’m gonna thrill ya tonight)
Darkness falls across the land
The midnight hour is close at hand
Creatures crawl in search of blood
To terrorize y’alls neighborhood

I’m gonna thrill ya tonight, ooh baby
I’m gonna thrill ya tonight, oh darlin’
Thriller night, baby, ooh!

The foulest stench is in the air
The funk of forty thousand years
And grizzly ghouls from every tomb
Are closing in to seal your doom

And though you fight to stay alive
Your body starts to shiver
For no mere mortal can resist
The evil of the thriller

You'll never be forgotten Thriller. RIP Michael Jackson.
