On the heels of my colleague Bryan McWilliam’s poll of whom the Jays should demote to AAA and bring up to The Show, comes this: Janssen and Romero are being called up, Ray and Cecil are being sent down.
Struggling rookie left fielder Travis Snider is also being sent down and super-utility man Joe Inglett is being called back up. I imagine Inglett and Bautista will see the majority of the time in left, although it wouldn’t surprise me to see Lind take a few games in there with someone else manning the DH spot.
More importantly, though, are the changes to the rotation. All signs point to Janssen starting a game against the Braves this weekend, possibly as early as tomorrow. It would be his first regular season start since 2007, so all eyes will be on him. Romero had a rough rehab session (0-1, an ERA of nearly 7 on three levels of minors) but will hopefully continue his hot April pitching into June. It’s likely we’ll see Romero pitch in Baltimore next week.
That’s all for now – I’m going on vacation.
